Historic Preservation The Lower Merion Conservancy is actively engaged in a variety of programs and projects aimed at preserving the rich historic legacy of Lower Merion, Narberth, and the surrounding region. First, the Board of Directors has established a Historic Preservation Committee, co-chaired by trustees Jean K. Wolf and Karen Reuter Nagel, that meets on a regular basis to discuss development and subdivision plans that impact historic resources. Committee members and Conservancy staff routinely testify about these impacts at Lower Merion and Narberth meetings Second, the Conservancy’s calendar includes events and programs that teach local history and preservation techniques. Be sure to check out the current Historic Preservation Lecture Series! In addition, the quarterly journal, the Landmark, includes a dedicated section on historic preservation, and special reports frequently highlight preservation concerns. Most importantly, the Conservancy is creating a Community Strategic Plan for historic preservation in Lower Merion and Narberth. In May 1997, some 85 leaders of the Lower Merion and Narberth communities gathered to discuss and dissect local preservation efforts, and crafted a vision statement for historic preservation. This community-wide effort will result in a strategic preservation plan written by the community. This ongoing effort is continually updated in our newsletters, letters to our members, and historic preservation lecture series calendars. If you’d like more information about historic preservation, would like to join the strategic planning process, or have any questions or concerns, make sure to call, write, or e-mail LMC@dragonfly.org immediately.
