Annual Preservation Watch List

The 12th Annual Preservation Watch List
Our 12th Annual Preservation Watch List, released July 2009, includes a wide variety of historic properties that define the area’s uniqueness and are threatened with demolition or neglect. Important threads in the fabric of the built environment of Lower Merion and Narberth are at risk – including a historic neighborhood and commercial corridor, several properties whose slow deterioration may soon render them beyond feasible repair, and buildings either unprotected or under-protected by municipal ordinances.

The Preservation Watch List is an important advocacy tool used by the Conservancy to assist the community in preserving the built environment of Lower Merion and Narberth. While the list helps prioritize Conservancy efforts, it also calls attention to larger issues such as neighborhood quality of life, improvements needed in existing public policy, and the problem of “demolition by neglect.” The ultimate goal is to generate awareness that promotes positive action.

The 12th Annual Preservation Watch List is as follows:

1. La Ronda, Bryn Mawr
2. Odd Fellows Hall, Gladwyne
3. The Spanish House, Narberth
4. Gerhard Building, Bryn Mawr
5. Inwood Farm Barn, Gladwyne
6. Maybrook, Wynnewood
7. Historic Lower Merion Street Signs
8. Large Victorian, Ardmore
9. The 1791 John Lewis House, Wynnewood
10. 1950s Modern Home, Gladwyne
11. Commercial Corridor, Bala Cynwyd
12. Baltis Whiteman House, Wynnewood
